Hi, my great-grandfather was John X Begley, his father was Pleasie Begley.I am looking for info on them, but I think I might know something about Hiram.I have just begun researching my genealogy and I got a book that my mother bought in Kentucky many years ago, titled: "Rugged Trail to Appalachia. In this book, it has a few pages of Begley genealogy.
It States that Hiram Begley (born 1802)was the son of William Begley (born Doesn't say died 1852) and Winifred Sizemore (born 1772 died 9/20/1855; perry county records).William Begley's father was Thomas Begley (Irish Descent).Thomas first settled in Pennsylvania, then emigrated to Virginia, then to North Carolina, then to Knox county, Kentucky.Other children of Thomas Begley were: Henry, John, Thomas Jr., Elizabeth, Susannah, Charity, and Mary (polly).
William was not born in Kentucky. The book states: (sit down for this one, the Begleys were always a wild bunch) while the family lived in North Carolina, William had a dispute with a neighbor over cattle. When the matter went ot court, the neighbor supposedly lied and William threatened to kill him.Later while the neighbor was walking down the road carrying his baby, William shot him in the legs. For this reason, William left North Carolina and moved to Bull Creek in Lesie county Kentucky around 1800.soon his brother Henry followed. They married sisters. The daughters of George All and Agnes Sizemore of Cherokee Indian descent. From 1824 to 1829, William was perry County Justice of the peace
I hope this helps, It might be your hiram begley or it might not, but I thought I would share it with you incase it was.If you know any of the John X or Pleasie Begley genealogy, please let me know, I don't know much yet.
Thanks,
Dick
