Thurman 'Sam' Belcher, 73, of Whitesburg, TN, passed away Sunday morning, October 17, 2010, at his home, surrounded by his family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born December 5, 1936.
He was a faithful member of Lee Valley Baptist Church and a member of Lee Valley Quartet. He retired from Rockwell Automation of Rogersville after 27 years of service. He had a host of wonderful family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patsy Ruth Belcher; father and mother, John and Alma Belcher; sisters, Allie Kinsler, Joyce Oliver; and brother, Matt D. Belcher.
Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Shirley Belcher; daughters, Arlene Lawson and husband Dewey, and Peggy Sue Belcher, all of Rogersville, TN; granddaughters, Lucky and Allie; grandsons, Victor and Maya Lawson of the home; brothers, Tommy and Brenda Belcher, H. L. and Brenda Belcher, all of Sneedville, TN, and Rob and Carol Belcher, of Baltimore, MD; sister, Arge and Vol Stewart of Sneedville, TN; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, H. B. Lawson and R. C. Burckett.

The family will receive friends Monday, October 18, and Tuesday, October 19, 2010, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Christian-Sells Funeral Home in Rogersville.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, October 20, 2010, in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Willard Wilder and the Rev. Gary Biggs officiating.
Interment will follow in the Burckett Cemetery in Sneedville.
