I have data on a couple of Bell's as candidates for first Bells born in America. 1. Richard Bell (Jr.) b. abt. 1625 in James City/County, VA, d. Isle of Wight, VA.
2. Brother, Thomas Bell, b. abt. 1625 in unknown.
3. Brother, George Bell, my line, b. abt. 1630 in James City/County, VA
These sons are believed to be fathered by Richard Bell, b. abt. 1605 in England, d. 1700 in Isle of Wight, VA, m. Sarah? His older brother, Robert III, was known to be in VA in 1620. Richard apparently lived to be quite old, as VA records show he was exempted from levies and taxes because of his great age.
This line can be traced back through more Richard and Robert Bell's to Sir Robert Bell, b. 1520, d. 1577, m. Dorothy Beaupree, who had 2 known titled sons, that begat sons who were sea captains, and one son believed to be Gov. of Bermuda in 1626. Sir Robert may be a Scot who moved from the borders during the turmoils of that period. He was possibly in the shipping trade, as several kindred Bell's independently landed in VA during a later period of 1635-1638.
Can anyone contribute to or correct the above data?
