I am descended from Rev. Samuel Belton, born in 1790 in Ireland. I have the details at my parents' home but this is what I can remember off the top of my head. I believe Samuel is a brother of the Thomas the earlier posts mentioned.
He was one of four or five boys (I have their names) and the family moved to Rome, New York, which is where Samuel converted to Methodism. The family later moved to the London, Ont. area. Samuel's brother, George, settled in West Nissouri twp., near London. Samuel Belton married Alice Wilson, the daughter of Rev. Samuel Wilson (another Methodist circuit rider preacher, also from Ireland), in about 1826, and had a daughter, my ancestor, Sarah Jane Belton, who was born between 1826 and 1830 in Hamilton, Ontario. She married Robert Evans of Hamilton (whose brother was the Rev. J.S. Evans). Their son was my great-great grandfather - Frederick Samuel Ainsley Evans of Windsor, Ont., who was a co-proprietor of Evans & Dodge bicycles at the turn of the century - the Dodge brothers of Detroit later went into autos.
