I've been browsing through the Laclede Co. Sentinel newspaper for the years of 1905-1907, and came upon some references to some BENCHes that I don't have in my database. Was wondering if anyone recognizes the names.
One is Elmer BENCH - in August 1905 there is reference to a divorce between Elmer BENCH and Ida, with Ida's surname being changed to PITMAN (which I assume is her maiden name.)
Then in 1906, there's reference to Elmer U. BENCH of Lebanon age 29 marrying Stacia E. GREGORY age 19 of Lebanon.(Guess Elmer didn't pine for Ida too long.....)
J. C. BENCH is referenced a few times.(John BENCH, husband of Mary Colber MILLS, died in 1900, so this wouldn't be him.)One reference was the rather humorous (at least I thought so) "J. C. Bench regrets to say his son, John, got "how-came-you-so" at the box supper...."
On a more serious note, there is a reference on 8-17-1906 of a circuit court hearing for the case of Mary NICKS et al vs. J. C. BENCH.Would love to know what that was about.
There's also reference made to Laura BENCH, and Lydia BENCH - I think Lydia may be the daughter of William Riley BENCH and Sarah Caroline COOK.
There's an application for a Laura BENCH of Brownfield to Nelie Ousley of Hyde Park, CA.
Also, "Linn Nelson took care of Mrs J. C. Bench's children while she visited her daughter in Springfield."
And "Mrs. J. C. Bench Bench and her mother called at Hy Scholckleys."
