He came to Iowa in l849, settling in Jones County, where he was united in marriage to MARY CATHARINE BENEFIEL, and eight children were born to them, five boys and two girls with the wife surviving him.When the war broke out he enlisted in Co. G, 3lst Iowa, and served three years.With his family he came to Decatur County a number of years ago, and has since resided at various places in this county.He had been in feeble health for some time and had never been strong since he first suffered from a stroke of paralysis some 22 years ago.He recovered in part and was able to get around until a few months ago, when he was again stricken with paralysis and two more strokes, the last five days before his death, left him almost helpless.
Funeral services were held from the home of his daughter, MRS. ELMER WEAVER, on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Elder H.H. Hubbell, Pastor of the Christian Church, interment being in the Leon Cemetery.

A CARD -- We extend our heartfelt thanks to friends and neighbors for their many acts of kindness during the illness and death of our father.He was a great sufferer, but had faith in the God above all.It is not our will but His who does all things for the best and we sincerely hope his last days were his best days.I remain as ever a sister in Christ, hoping to meet him in a better world than this.
Dearest father, thou hast left us,
And thy loss I sadly feel;
But 'tis God that has bereft us,
He can all our sorrows heal.
--MRS. LIZZIE WEAVER.
