Maybe you could help me trace my husbands family. What we know about his family is that his Grandfather was Frank John Benes of Praha, Bohemia who married Margaret Jane Baylor of Schueyville, IA.They had several children one of which was my husbandsfather "Fred William Benesh" born 4/18/1886 in Mt. Vernon, Iowa - changed by Fred to "Fred William Benish" who married Inez Vernal VanHorn July 5, 1938 in Kennebec, South Dakota.
My husband was a late life baby -- Robert William Benish born 3/22/1941 - His father was 55 when he was born.
I have a copy of the newspaper clipping of Fred's death in Herlong, California in 1950 which lists several siblings:Mrs. Clara Speer of Webster Grove, Missouri:Mrs. Hazel Chamberlain, Denver, Colorado; Mrs. Bess (Barbara?) Foy, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; brothers Glen of Mount Vernon, Iowa, Waldon of Mount Pleasant, Iowa; Harry of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Frank of Mount Vernon, Iowa.He was preceded in death by his father, mother and sister Mary.
Bob's (my husband) favorite "Uncle Harry" told him sometime in the 1960's when he asked about his Benes heritage that the past doesn't really matter and to, in effect, "let it go".That's easier said than done.I'm looking for any additional information on this family that I can find! Great Grandparents, etc., cousins, aunts, uncles, whatever I can locate. Can you help?
