Hi Malcolm - my researches aren't that advanced as yet.The parish priest in Ennistymon tells me that there were originally three brothers in Milltown Malbay - all journeymen plasterers.Eventually they set up three homes, William in Ennistymon, Richard in Miltown Malbay and Hugh in Lisdoonvarna. Hugh was my husband's grandfather and he married a Susan Davenport.I know that the Davenport family at some point went to America because five or six years ago my husband's aunt inherited some money when a Thomas Davenport died in Long Island New York. Hugh's children were Richard Stephen (my late father in law), Maura (who is still alive andused to run a small hotel in Lisdoonvarna) and Michael who came over to England in 1939 and died about 15 years ago.
William, the brother in Ennistymon married Mary Skerritt (30.11.1920) and their children were Michael born 19.8.1921, Hugh 28.10.22 (stillborn) Thomas Christopher 18.12.1924 and Hugh 4.1.1927.
I would be v. interested in anything you have to indicate where the Benns were prior to 1920 as the parish records show nothing in Ennistymon before that date.Family myth has it that the Benns had always been plasterers and went over to Ireland from England with Cromwell's army.
