Oui, c'est tres interessant de discuter les Berards! (Hey pretty good for someone who only studied French and never used it) Hope you don't mind if we use English. Yes, I'm descended from a Berard who came from France in the 1600s and supposedly was the father of the first baby born in Quebec City. His descendant, Henry Berard, came to America in the 1880s and became a baker in Cambridge, Mass. He married a beautiful Irish girl in Natick and they had my grandmother.
The Berards are intelligent and sensitive, with strong moral courage and very devout - my Uncle Bill Berard was a missionary in China, and my aunt is a Sister of Notre Dame.
The Berards made it in the New World, and are even today they a very special race!
