BERG Lloyd Gerald August 27, 1917 - May 24, 2009 "In our memory you are near." Our dear father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed peacefully in the Burnaby General Hospital in the early morning of May 24, 2009; holding onto his positive spirit until the very end. He is survived and will be lovingly remembered by his daughters Diane Nickel (Ken) and Sharon Lee (Bob), his four grandchildren Jeffrey, Jed, Kristen and Marci, their partners and his adored great-grandchildren Aaron, Talisyn, Justin, Shaylee and baby Lauren. He was predeceased by the love of his life, wife Irene (Martin) on December 10, 2007; a devotion lasting 67 years. He is also predeceased by a sister and four brothers and is survived by sister Renee (Tiny) McCuaig and many nieces and nephews. Lloyd was born in the family home in Queensborough on August 27, 1917 and spent his youth in the local area before joining the Air Force. On his return to civilian life he settled in Burnaby, building his dream home and dedicating himself to his young family. His career with the Vancouver Plywood Division of McMillan and Bloedel spanned 40 years with retirement in 1979. He then said to Irene, "Come on, I will show you the world" and he did. Their travels were extensive and adventurous; always remembering the family with gifts. His major focus was creating a contented life for those he loved, offering support, wisdom and a generous nature. His strength of character was solid, his heart was light, always there to listen, lend a helping hand and putting others' interests before his own. His friends and family knew him as loyal and trusting. He was an optimist and worked tirelessly towards the enjoyment of the good life. He was 91 years young... a life lived well... as he would say "with no regrets". Our family would like to acknowledge the care and concern of the staff at George Derby Center and the good friends he met there. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2009 from 12:00pm to 3:00pm at the Westminster Club, 7th Floor, 713 Columbia Street, New Westminster, BC. No flowers please; donations may be made to the George Derby Center in support of our veterans.
