As a teenager, she returned to Lowell, MA with her parents where she graduated from Lowell High and Saint Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing, in Lowell, MA. She graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1946. On September 29, 1946 she and Harvey married, eventually having six children, whom they proudly raised on their family farm in Windham, NH.

Much of her career was spent as a School Nurse and wellness educator at Windham Center School in Windham, NH. She was a staff nurse and Obstetrical Educator at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Lowell, MA. She was especially proud of her published work in the Geriatric Journal of Nursing. Carmen also served on the executive committee of the Derry Visiting Nurses Association and the New Hampshire School Nurses Committee. Upon retiring, she and Harvey split their time between their homes in Stuart, Florida and New Hampshire. Each spring they looked forward to returning "north" to spend time with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. During her retirement, Carmen enjoyed traveling with her husband, reading for education and enjoyment, and sharing family time with her large family.
Carmen was predeceased by her husband, Harvey; and a brother, James Devno.
