I am researching Nikolajs B?rzi?š who was born on 12 February 1878 (new calendar – p?c jauns stila ) in a cottage in Ternejá (Torney) "pagasts" (civil parish), near R?jiena (Rujen), Latvia (Russian province of Livland). He was Christened (Krist?šana) Russian Orthodox (Pareizt?cba).
Nikolajs' Marriage (Prec?ts):1917 at Saint Isidore’s Orthodox Church, Walk (Valka/Valga) to Melanija Suija, an Estonian.
Nikolajs' Death (Miršanas): 10 June 1932, Valka
Nikolajs' Burial (Apglab?t): 11 June 1932 in Lugaži Ev. Lutheran Cemetery,Valka (because the Orthodox church and cemetery was in adjoining Estonian Valga).
Nikolajs' Father (T?vs): M?rti?š B?rzi?š -He died before 1925.
- M?rti?š B?rzi?š had at least 3 brothers, who were alive in the early 1900s.
-M?rti?š B?rzi?š and his 3 brothers were said to have been christened Ev. Lutheran. 2 sons were given the name “Berzins”and the other 2 sons were given the name “Berins”or similar.
-M?rti?š B?rzi?š is said to have converted from the Ev. Lutheran religion to Russian Orthodox because he was a landless peasant and hoped to be given some Crown land from the Tsar for converting.
-M?rti?š B?rzi?š married 2 times. By the 1st marriage he is said to have had at least the following children: 1. a son, name unknown, 2. a daughter named Jevdokija (born 1868 in Naukš?ni pag., near R?jiena, married Dimitry Balanin at Valka, had no children and died at Valka 16 Feb. 1953 aged 84), and 3. a daughter named Anna , who did not marry, but who had a daughter, and died in the 1930s) . By the 2nd marriage he had: 4. Nikolajs (born 12 Feb. 1878 in Ternejá pagasts ), and 5. a daughter named Olga (born 1881, married Peteris Kani?š at Valka before 1914, and died 6 Dec.1959 aged 77 at R?ga).
Nikolajs' Mother (M?te): ?Elsteres Spalva?. She died c.1884 –1890.
