I'm researching JOHN M. BETHELL b. abt 1822 N.C., d. 1860 Athens, Henderson, Texas. JOHN M. married Mary M. b. abt. 1827 Tenn.
1850 Census Carroll Co., Tenn shows John M. Bethel age 28, M.D. b. N.C. and wife Mary M. age 23 b. Tenn, son JAMES M. age 5, dau. Martha age 3.
Dickson Co., Tenn marriages shows John Bethel married a Martha Ethredge May 5, 1847. I don't know if this is the same couple or not but the date seems right and I believe Dickson Co. is close to Carroll Co. If this is not the couple I'm looking for please let me know.
1860 Census Athens, Henderson, Texas shows Mary M. Bethell age 32 b. Tenn., teaching music and painting, with the following children: James M. age 14, Martha A. age 12, Margaret L. age 9, John age 6, Thomas R. age 1.
Mortality Schedule for Henderson County shows JOHN M. BETHELL, AGE 38, b. N.C., died in Jan of 1860 from suicide. It states he was a physician, doctor, surgeon.
1870 Census for Limestone County shows James M. Bethell, age 24 b. Tenn. as a student. I checked Limestone County history and at that time there was Trinity University.
1880 Census Rains County, Texas shows J.M. Bithel (Bethell) Physician, age 34, b. Tenn, f.b. NC, m.b. Tenn. married to Emma (Emma Zora Fatheree) age 24, with children Pearl, Leon, Monroe and Emma's sister Lula Fatheree.
Rains, Henderson and Limestone Counties are in East Texas.
