I wish I knew the origin of Turbutt. Thomas had 2 sons,Thomas and Turbutt. His will has only given name of his 1st wife with the 2nd listed as executor so it seems possible Turbutt may have been maiden name of 1st. wife. The name continued to be used as a first or middle name into the 1880's throughout all branches of the Bettons. Julian Betton is related to the Maryland Bettons through a Turbutt, who left Maryland with many relatives to settle in Florida around 1832. Turbutt Betton and his nephew, named Meginnes, operated a very prosperous firm near Tallahasse, titled Meginnes & Betton, Cotton Exporters. My relatives stayed in Maryland and fought for the Union side in our Civil War. Julian was Confederate officer. Don't know much about the Waite family tree as yet.
