My Grandfather Hyman Bialik and his brother Mordcha Bialik came to the US (Brooklyn, NY) around 1900 or 1901. Their parents were (Solomon) Shlomo Zalman Bialik and Miriam Leah Tomback. They had 2 sisters that migrated to Montreal Canada later. There were other brothers and or half brothers older and younger. Hyman had 3 sons Archie (Harry),Louis & Nathan ; 2 daughters Miriam and Minnie. My cousin Judy and I David , my children Barry and Howard are the only ones with the Bialik surname from Hyman. Mordcha had 2 married daughters that are unknown to me now. Last known about the european Bialik's;I was told that in 1929 Shlomo and his 2nd wife and his 2 or 3 children fled the house he built in Gorowono Poland by foot.
I am interested in learning more, These postings are quite revealing & they may tie together. I was also told the poet Chiam Nathan Bialik may have bee a cousin to my grandfather. There was a story that one of the relatives shot his toe off to avoid conscription in the russian army, thus forcing the younger brother to be drafted - this action caused a family rift. I'll assume it was the other side.
