Hello All. Jerry - this is directed particularly to you, since you have access to some of the pertinent records. I have a note in my research that James Bigby served under Captain John Mahary in the Revolutionary War, and the land he received was in Sumner County on the waters of White Oak Creek and Barren River. Where is this Barren River located? Is it in any way connected to the Barren Fork of eastern Oklahoma and/or western Arkansas? If so, then we have a bit of a connection. My deceased father wrote a historical novel (still unpublished and in hands of family for over 64 years) which is set in Oklahoma during the transitional period directly after removal. Family tradition has always maintained that it was a historical novel based on fact. In the story, there is a mission on the Barren Fork, and one of the primary characters is Reverend Redbird. What a coincidence huh? Anyway, I was wondering if you could check for a bounty land warrant for James Bigby for his service under this officer. Worth a try.. Thanks so much.
