My wife and I returned about a month ago from Ulster. In the Crossle manuscripts at PRONI we found mention of "Mary, widow of Rev. Hugh Binning, Minister of Govan in Ayrshire and daughter of the Rev. James Simpson, Minister of Airth in County Sterling."She married second to Rev. James Gordon.
Hugh and Mary had a son, John."When this son, John Binning, who owned a considerable estate at Dalvennan, Ayrshire, came to years of discretion (?) he took up arms with the Convenanters, fought with them at the fatal battle of Bothwell Bridge, and in consequence forfeited his estate.
I am interested in the Gordons because of a lease in 1714 by Robert Gordon to, among others, John Miscampbell.
