Sande, just a follow-up from my previous note. I was kind of interested so spent a little time looking over your note again and looked up some information. 1st - the marriage of Hardin and Sidney (Sydney) occurred in 1864 per Illinois marriage records as you stated. BUT it is not likely that they had a child together before that.. in fact 1849 for Margaret/Mary? Also, Sidney married at age 52 so this usually means that she was married before and remarried as did Hardin. So therefore, I did find Sydney E. Burge in 1860 in Edgar county, IL with the Yeargin's family and she had a child, James L. Burge age 1. She was 21 years of age. Not 1812 in NC but 1838 in IL. So I wanted to verify the age so found Harden Allen age 50 born in Kentucky and Sydney age 32 (abt. 1838 born IL) in Pawnee, Bourbon Co., KS. They had 3 children, James age 12, Charles age 5 and Lucinda age 2. Charles and Lucinda would be children of the both of them and James was a child to a father previous to Hardin.
So that begs a question on what facts do you have, vital records indicating Sidney/Sydney maiden name as Birge? The only Birge/Burge/Berge was a Elizbeth Berge born abt. 1837 in Illinois in 1850 census in Fulton County, IL. So it might be possible she had a child out of wedlock in 1859 (James). But then I would think she married a Birge/Burge and I did find a Joseph/John Burge marriage to a Sydney Murphy in 1855 in Edgar County, Illinois which makes more sense. This Joseph/John could have died early and Sydney remarried to Hardin Allen. So reason I'm asking on what vital record you might have or was your information past down through the generations and might have some assumptions. But anyway, she was not born in 1812 in NC so can disregard that and concentrate on Illinois records.
Hope this helps your search.
