My Birkholzs came from a little farther east in Posen (Kr. Kolmar). Putzig Hauland was in Kr. Filehne, I believe.
William's Birkholz came from a hotbed area of Birkholzs in the area where the provinces of Brandenburg, Pommern (Pomerania) and Westpreussen (West Prussia) met. Kreis Arnswalde, West Prussia had many Birkholzs. Our area of Posen had quite a few also, and it is probable that these Posen Birkholzs originally came from the Arnswalde area. It is possible that your ancestors were distantly related to mine. Mine emigrated about 1882 and settled in Monroe County, Wisconsin. Most Birkholzs that immigrated to the US, settled first in Wisconsin, with Minnesota having the next greatest numbers.
