Hello Cathy,
I was doing some surfing on the net and found the Bittman genealogy forum. It was fascinating to read the posts by you and others. It turns out that we're cousins.
My grandfather was Richard Bittman, the brother of your grandfather Joseph Bittman. I see that some people have mentioned Roman Bittman who is my uncle. His sister is my mother, Delores Bittman. Richard was a fur trapper in Northern Alberta. He was quite old when I was little and unfortunately he died when I was only 8 years old, in 1980. I also remember meeting your grandfather Joseph when I was little. I called him "Uncle Joe" and remember him to be a very nice, old man. Uncle Joe would visit us sometimes in Edmonton. My Mom told me that he once drove into Edmonton from Faust, got lost and drove his vehicle onto the Municipal Airport runway by mistake. Apparently that was quite a famous story at the airport back then. The last time I saw Uncle Joe was at my grandfather's (Richard's) funeral.
Anyway, after I read your post, I felt compelled to write you. My Mom has told me some of the history about how the Bittman family emigrated from Germany on the Palentine ships. It's really a fascinating history.
Take care!
