I am looking for information on my maternal grandmother. I have bits and pieces as remembered by my mother. Name: Margarette Blakeslee, born 1895. Lived at 275 Sherman Ave. New Haven, Ct. Father ran a bar on 1st floor, family lived upstairs. Father died when Margarette was very young. Her mother worked in a bakery.
Margarette's babysitter let her dance to the organ grinder's music out on the street each day. When Mother found out, Margarette was put in a boarding school run by nunsand would come home on weekends. She hated going back to school. Mother confronted nuns and found that if a wrong was doneand nobody owned up to it, all were punished.Margarette was taken out of school(at 4th grade). She went to work with her mother and did dishes. This was the last of her formal education.
Margarette had an older brother,Bill,( Dr. of Chiropractic)who married Edna. They had a daughter Edna and a daughter Frances who would now be about 79 years old.
A younger brother ( don't have name) went to live with relatives in Albany, NY when the father died and eventually died of a brain tumor.
Margarette's mother had diabetes, went blind and died in a nursing home.(? in New Haven)
I have no names for mother or father. I can't find any information on this side of my family. Does anyone recognize these people? My email is firstname.lastname@example.org Tanks so much for any help!
