JOHN S. RYAN, son of IRA B. and KATHERINE RYAN, was born in Muskingum County, Ohio, July 8, l83l, and departed this life August 20, l9l9, at the age of 88 years, one month and twelve days.
With his parents he moved to Jones County, Iowa, about the year l845.He was converted when only about seventeen years of age and was very active in the cause of the Master.He was a member of the United Brethren Church while he lived in Jones County.
He was united in marriage to MISS LOUISA BOGGS, April l, l855.To this union were born eleven children, the mother and four children preceding the father in death.Those who survive are: MRS. MARY JANE TRISLER, of Shattuck, Okla.; MRS. MARGARET HARTSHORN, of Osceola, Iowa; JOHN HARVEY RYAN, of Leon; CHARLES THOMAS RYAN, of Osceola; MRS. OLIVE DRAKE, of Portland, Oregon; MRS. BERTHA UPJOHN, of Omaha, Nebr.; MRS. ALICE ARMSTRONG, of Osceola.
In the year, l865, he and his family moved on a farm four miles north of Leon where he resided until he moved to Leon in February l899.He was united in marriage to MRS. ADDIE BLAKESLEY, June l5, l882, and to this union was born one child, MRS. LUCY ARNOLD CUMMINGS, of Saline, Mo.A few years ago he united with the Baptist Church and remained a member of that church until his death.Last October he was taken ill and from that time he was a great sufferer.His funeral was held at the Brethren Church at 2:00 o'clock Saturday afternoon, August 23, l9l9, the services being conducted by Rev. G.T. Ronk. Interment at Leon Cemetery.
