I am searching for information about the family of Thomas BLANCHE (b. 1842, Shetland) and Margaret SAUVAGE (b. 1848, Bromley) and their eight children, Robert Henry (b. 1871), Andrina Louisa (b. 1873), Margaret Ann (b. 1876), Alice Mary (1879-1960), Lilian Ursula (b. 1881), Elizabeth Sauvage (b. 1883), Thomas (b. 1885), and Arthur Sauvage (b. 1888). The family lived at 124 Canton St., Poplar in the 1870s and 1880s, later at 79 Mary St., West Ham, Essex, and then appears to have dispersed (possibly because of the death of the mother, Margaret). The senior Thomas was a seaman from Coldback, Shetland, Scotland who reputedly lived on a Royal Navy pension during his later years and lived to be over 90. My grandmother, Alice, trained as a hairdresser, left London in the early 1900s, traveled to Egypt as a governess, married a Swiss businessman and eventually settled in California in 1920.The California descendants of Thomas BLANCHE and Margaret SAUVAGE are anxious to determine whether other descendants of this family still exist in the U.K. or elsewhere.
