Hello Michael
I am Anthony Blee, son of David Michael Vaughan Blee, son of David Blee. David Blee lived in London. He started work with the railways because his father worked with the horses at Paddington station. He joined up at the age of 16 to follow his elder brothers, (Arthur and I think there were three or four others). He attained rank of corporal. After the war he continued with the railways. During the second world war he was Lieutenant Colonel of the Royal Corps of Transport and afterwards went on to become General Manager of London and Midland Railways. He was awarded CBE in 1963 (?). His final years were spent in Shoulden, Kent previously in Burnham Beeches, Bucks. He died in 1979 and is buried at Hawkinge, Folkestone.
His son (my father) David, but known as Michael, was educated at Westminster and went up to Emmanuel College Cambridge. He became a school master and ended up as headmaster of Salisbury Cathedral Prep school. He greatly improved the school whilst he was there and introduced the first cathedral girls choir in the country. He married Sheila Bentley in 1960 and they had 2 children; myself, Anthony Vaughan Blee and Jonathan David Vaughan Blee. Michael and Sheila retired to Cotherston, near Barnard Castle Co Durham. Michael died in 2001 and is buried in Rommelkirk near Cotherston. I married Dawn Williams and we have 2 children Alexander David Vaughan Blee and Aurelia Rose Vaughan Blee.
We live in Edenbridge Kent.
We would be delighted to hear from any Blees and learn more about the family.
