William Robert 'Bill' Collins, Sr., 72, of Kingsport, Sullivan Co TN, passed away suddenly on Tuesday morning, February 22, 2011, at his residence.
He was recently retired from Kingsport Times News after 30 years service and was a former employee of Holston Defense. Bill was a graduate of Lynn View High School and is the former owner-operator of Tall Oaks Kennel in Kingsport. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Henrietta Blevins Collins; and his son, William 'Bill' Collins, Jr.
Survivors include his daughter-in-law, Sandra Collins; three grandchildren, Aaron R. Collins, Eli Collins, and Tyler Shanks, all of Kingsport, TN; his brother, Gary Collins and wife Patricia, of Church Hill, TN; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m., on Sunday, February 27, 2011, at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga Street, Kingsport.
Military graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, TN, conducted by the American Legion Hammond Post # 3 and Gate City Post #265, with Pastor Jeff Smith officiating. The American Legion Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers.
