Robert Louis 'Bobby' Blevins, 59, departed this life for
his Heavenly Home at 2 a.m., on Thursday, April 28, 2011,
when an F3 tornado destroyed his home. He was born
December 3, 1951. Bobby was accompanied in death by his
faithful canine companion, Katie.
A 1970 graduate of Patrick Henry High School, Bobby
attended Emory & Henry College, he was a proud member of
Azen Baptist Church in Konnarock, VA.
By the grace of God, he is survived by his precious and
devoted wife of 37 years, Debbie Blevins, who is recovering
from major injuries sustained in the event, at a local
trauma center and canine companion, Bella.
He was welcomed into Glory by his parents, Robert L.
'Polly' and Mary Lucille Blevins; infant sister, Mary Lee
Blevins; his in-laws, John and Shirley Osborne; cousin and
best friend, Paul William 'Buster' Jones; and loyal canine
He is also survived by his 'one and only,' a loving
daughter, Cristie Blevins Lester and beloved son-in-law,
Jason Lester, Abingdon, VA; very special brother-in-law
and pastor, Johnnie Osborne, very special sister-in-law,
Alice Osborne, 'Poppy’s pride and joy' – his best friend
and sweet angel, Jordan and Madison Osborne, all of Glade
Spring, VA; sister-in-law, Edy Osborne Pratt; nieces,
Jenny Tolliver Cupeta and husband Tommy, and Danielle
Colley, all of MD; great niece, Hannah Michelle Cupeta;
two aunts, Ruth Watson, Ferguson, NC, and Dorothy Watson,
Winston-Salem, NC; very special cousins, Ettie Watson
Jones, Meadowview, VA, and Betty Bowers Watson, Bristol,
VA; and a very special friend and brother in Christ,
The family would like to thank all the neighbors, rescue
personnel and five very special angels – unnamed students
from Emory & Henry College, that ran through the field and
saved the life of Debbie Blevins and the life of Bella.
Due to the hospitalization of Debbie, a celebration of the
life of Bob Blevins will be held at a later date. Flowers
will be omitted and donations may be made in memory of
Robert 'Bobby' Blevins to the Bob Blevins Memorial Fund,
P.O. Box 948, Abingdon, Virginia 24212.
