Dr. Ballard H. Blevins, 80, of Kingsport, Sullivan Co TN,
went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday evening, May
11, 2011, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center ER,
after a long illness.
He was born in Johnson City, Washington Co TN, and had
been a resident of Kingsport since 1973. Dr. Blevins
graduated from East Tennessee State University and UT
Memphis Medical School. He served in the US Air Force as a
Medical Doctor attaining the rank of Captain. Dr. Blevins
was a practicing Psychiatrist at the VA Medical Center,
Mountain Home for many years. He came to Kingsport in 1973
to continue a family practice office in Green Acres
retiring in 1998. Dr. Blevins was a member of St. John's
Episcopal Church in Johnson City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herb and Lucy
Garland Blevins; a brother, Junior Blevins; two half
brothers, D. F. Blevins and O. J. Blevins.
He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Cathy Moore
Blevins, of the home; his children, Sarah Grace Blevins,
Benjamin Blevins, Matthew Blevins, and Andrew Blevins, all
of the home, Kelly Blevins, of FL, Becky Parks and husband
Mitch, of Atlanta, GA, Eric Blevins, of Atlanta, GA,
Michael Blevins, of New York, NY, and Hannah Blevins, of
Atlanta, GA; his grandchildren, Allison Washkill, Lauren
Parks, Taylor Parks, Coleman Parks, Kindle Parks, Ethan
Parks, Kelsey Blevins, and Robbie Gordon; one half sister,
Zeola Cole, of Elizabethton, TN.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.,
Sunday May 15, 2011, at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520
Watauga Street, Kingsport.
A service will follow at 3 p.m., in the funeral home
chapel, with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating. Eulogy will
be held by Matt Clark.
A military graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., on
Monday, May 16, 2011, at Mountain Home National Cemetery,
Mountain Home, TN, with American Legion Post 3/265
conducting the rites. Pallbearers will be Andy Baker,
Matthew Houser, Marvin Henson, Matt Clark, Mitch Parks,
and Coleman Parks. Honorary pallbearers will be Macolm
Arnold, David Barcel, and Ben Kress.
