John Wallace Blevins, 82, passed away on Wednesday, March
14, 2012, in the Johnston Memorial Hospital, in Abingdon,
He was born on June 9, 1929, a son of Eve and Lucy Collins
Blevins. Wallace was married to Erma Greer Blevins for
over 60 years. He had retired from Brunswick Corporation
after 37 years of service.
He was a lifelong member of Cleghorn Valley Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a
daughter, Wanda Rouse.
Survivors include his loving wife, Nora Ermalee Greer
Blevins; one son, John Wallace Blevins Jr. and wife Kathy;
two daughters, Freda Odum and husband Robert, and Kathy
Haynes and husband Roger; a son-in-law, Mike Rouse; eight
grandchildren, Stacy Cornwell and Ben, Jessica Hill and
Travis, Kevin Blevins and Scarlet, Jonathan Haynes and
Jessica, Josh Rouse, Lucas Odum and Cami, Joseph Haynes
and Tessa, and Kelly Dancy and Joseph; eighteen great-
grandchildren; one brother, Earl and Joyce Blevins; his
sisters, Elizabeth and Gilbert Blevins, Shirley and David
Cole, and Olivine and Sherman Frye; three sisters-in-law,
Mary Blevins, Irene and Harold Wilson, and Lois Tinker
The family sends a special thanks to the staff of Fresenius
Dialysis Center and the Smyth County Ambulance Service.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 p.m.
to 8 p.m., at the church.
Funeral services for Mr. Blevins will be held at 8 p.m. on
Friday, March 16, 2012, at the Cleghorn Valley Baptist
Church, with Pastor Wesley Eller and the Rev. Bob Steele
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday,
March 17, 2012, at the Cleghorn Valley Baptist Church
Flowers will be appreciated, or memorial donations can be
made to the Cleghorn Valley Baptist Church Cemetery Fund
