Family in New Orleans
Richard (?) Blossman of New Orleans married Elena de Reyes of Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, who moved with the family to Lavaca, Calhoun County, Texas in the 1840's or 1850's. He was transplanted German by may of England. They continued connection with New Orleans, as evidenced by her letter from Lavaca (now Port Lavaca), Texas to the Archbishop of N.O. in 1864 (U. of Notre Dame Archives). Their daughter Rosalie married James B. Thompson, collateral (i.e. not descendant) of Benjamin Thompson, Count of Rumford. The marriage of another Richard Blossman (perhaps his son by an prior marriage) and of one Sampson Blossman are reflected in the records of the Times Picayune from 1837 to 1860 or so. One of the Blossman sons enlisted with the Lavaca Guard of the CSA in 1861.
