John Jacob Blumer died from heart trouble at his farm home 5 miles SW of New Glarus, WI at 3:30 pm on Tu Sept. 11.He had been confined to his bed since 9/8/1934.The deceased was born at Engi, Canton, Glarus, Switzerland on 2/20/1853 the son of jacob Blumer and Anna Marie Altman.He was married in 1871 to Verena Baumgarnter and they came to America in 1873.They resided at Monroe, WI for 5 yrs. and then came to New Glarus, WI and settled on the farm where they have since resided.Twelve children were born to this union, six sons and six daughters.One son Jacob preceded him in death.His wife passed away June 25, 1925 (?).Surviviors are six daughters, Mrs. Joshua Legler; Adams; Mrs. Robert Gempeler, Ida Grove, IA, "Mrs. Thomas Blum", Monroe; Mrs. Edward Blum, Paoli; Mrs. Herman Gempeler, Albany and Mrs. Fred Blum, Albany; Five sons, John, Exeter; Fred, Jordan; David, Belleville; and Henry and Herman, New Glarus: 38 grand-children; 49 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
This was my husbands Mother's family.His G-ma was the daughter of Thomas Blum and Mary Blumer.
Thomas Blum, 74, Cadiz Twnsp, died at 12:40 am today at St Clare Hospital (Monroe WI).Mr. Blum was born in Jordan Township 9-27-1879, a son of Peter and Rosa Blum, and was married to Mary Blumber 11-6-1900.He always lived in Green Cty, WI and moved to the home of a son Elman, Cadiz Township, when his wife died 1-12-1948.He leaves six daughters, Mrs. Wilma Kubly, Blanchardville, Mrs. David Kubly, Argyle, Mes. Weston Elmer, Argyle, Mrs. Phillip Grimm, Monre, Mrs. Verna Frauchiger, Wiota, and "Mrs. William Perington", Brodhead, Wi, five sons, Elman, Ivan, Louis, Milvin, and Raymond.three brothers, John, Otto, and Edward all Monroe, 41 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.Fours brothers, Fred, Henry, Jacob and Peter and 4 sisters, Mmes. Math Voegli, Thomas Voegli, David Martin, and Miss Dora, preceded him in death.
