Hi Richard, Thanks for what you've posted. I will post a summary here on our common Blackwood/McAfee line (leading to Frank White/Nancy Bohon Blackwood). This is a lot of info., but hopefully it will help others make connections.
The oldest Blackwood I have is William (b. 1778) and wife Eleanor Blackwood. Our line is through their son Joseph Blackwood Sr. (b.1785, Mercer Co. KY) and wife Sarah Neeld [dau. of Margaret McAfee (b.1767, Mercer Co.) and Nathaniel Neeld]; next, our line is through Sarah Neeld and Joseph Blackwood's son William Blackwood (b 1813, Mercer Co. KY) and Elizabeth Jemima Bohon (b. 1820, Mercer Co.), [EJM, the dau. of Major William Bohon and Nancy Sanford]; next our line through William and EJB Blackwood's dau. Nancy Bohon Blackwood (b. 1840) who married Frank White (b. 1835/6).
I am a descendant of Nancy B. Blackwood and Frank White's daughter Susan White; Richard, I believe I read your wife is descended through Susan's brother John White.)
The oldest McAfee I have is John McAfee(1) born 1645 in Scotland - immigrated from Colonsay to Co. Armagh, Ireland abt 1672. It's unsure who his wife was. Next comes John McAfee (2) (b. 1673 in Co. Armagh, Ire) and Mary Rogers (b. abt. 1670). [John died 1735 in Ireland, I show Mary later immig. to PA]; next comes James McAfee (b. 1707, Co. Armagh, Ire) and Jane (Janet) McMichael (b. 1710, Co. Armagh, Ire) - they immig. frm Belfast, Ire. in spring of 1739. Family went from PA/VA to Mercer Co. KY. There's writings about Jane McAfee through the D.A.R. Our line is through son Robert McAfee (b. 1745 in Lancaster, PA) and Anne McCoun (b. 1746 in Augusta Co. VA), through their dau. Margaret McAfee (b. 1767 in VA, who married Nathan Neeld.
The writings of Robert B. McAfee, Margaret's brother, serve as a base for much McAfee research.
Anne McCoun's parents were Margaret Walker and James McCoun (4). I don't have the book, but this history can be found in a book written my Maurie McCoun Klimcheck, "The Descendants of James McCoun and Margaret Walker".
The McCoun family line is interesting to McAfee researchers, in part because Klimcheck's research shows that Elizabeth Montgomery was actually the wife of James McCoun (2), not John McAfee (1). By this, apparently Robert B. McAfee mistakingly associated his great grandmother Elizabeth Montgomery to his paternal side rather than to his maternal side in his writings. However, you will commonly see Elizabeth Montgomery listed as the wife of John McAfee (1) because of Robert B.'s reference.
Now there's a web woven! Will send a file when I am finished recording. (We should compare notes on the Bohon family.) Others, I am typing this fresh; I did proof, but e-mail me to confirm. There are some respected researchers and McAfee mail lists I can refer you to.
