Samuel Weaver was born in Cumberland Co, VA on 26 Nov 1755, and stood seven feet four inches tall, had broad shoulders, an athletic bild and was very agile.He was known as the "Giant" of the Weaver family.When the Revolutionary War began he was living in Rockingham County, Virginia, and immediately went into service.His first enlistment was under Captain George Hosten of Virginia; next he served in Captain Jacob Camplins NC troops.After about six months of service with this outfit he enrolled as a "Minute Man" for the duration of the war, serving in various scouting parties against the "Tories" (British sympathizers).He became Aide-de-camp to General Francis Marion, The Swamp Fox.After the War was over he moved to Washington Co, TN, and fought in Indian Wars against the Cherokees with Col. Sevier and Captain Wood.
Samuel married Mary Ann Bollinger on 7 October 1783, Washington Co, TN.Mary Ann's mother was a granddaughter of Guttenberg, who printed the first Bibles.Mary Ann received one and inherited another one from her mother.When andrew Jackson, who was a cousin of Samuel's was elected President of the U. S., they gave him this Bible to take to the White House.There was once a note held by one family member from Andrew Jackson thanking Mary Ann and Samuel Weaver for the Bible.Samuel died 14 November 1842, and is buried in Providence Cemetery in Laurel Co, KY beside his wife Mary Ann.
