I have been researching a collateral line to yours.Juda is the sister of my husband's 3rd great grandfather. I think that means that we are the same generation descendants.
I urge you to check the BOWMAN forum, in particular posting #3501. Juda is the daughter of Josiah and Elizabeth BOMAN.
Josiah and Elizabeth are buried in Shiloh Cemetery in Overton Co., TN.You will see many theories for Elizabeth's maiden name: ALRED, COOK, STILLWELL, and STOUT.I can rule out STILLWELL; she was married to a Josiah in a different generation.I think I can rule out COOK.I lean toward Elizabeth being an ALRED for two reasons: Josiah BOMAN's property adjoined the property of Solomon ALRED.There were ALRED sisters of the appropriate age.I have yet to see anyone show irrefutable proof of the others.
Having read document after document and looked at toombstone after toombstone, there is no rhyme nor reason to how the name was spelled. It might be one way in one document and another in another document.A spouse's name might be BOMAN and the other BOWMAN.There are descendants from the same lines with both spellings, although most of those in Overton Co., Tennessee or recently from Overton Co. use the spelling BOWMAN.
I was delayed for mechanical reasons in responding to your posting. As a result, I ran across a photo of Juda BOMAN and Martin Luther FRENCH on a family website. The site is ----auugh! I can't locate it right this minute.I will send another follow-up.
