Ginny -- I received a letter from Dr. Mary F. Estes, of Jonesboro, Georgia, in December 1998.The letter is as follows: "My maternal grandmother was Mary Janie Hart, daughter of G.W. and Ophelia Key Hart (Ophelia was G.W.'s first wife).Note that Mary Janie was born Feb. 21, 1875, and Ophelia died in Dec., 1875.A cousin, Dawson Day, whose [sic] is the grandson of Dura Hart Howell, sent me Ophelia's maiden name and her parents's names. He also said that G.W.'s father is Benjamin Hart." "My parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents are buried at Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church in the Marcoot community, northwest of LaFayette, AL.On Thanksgiving day I went to the cemetery and found the Hart family graves.Along with G.W. and his two wives are Jessie Ardell Hart, Benjamin Hart (b. Mar. 1, 1812; d. May 7, 1882), Frances J. Daniel Hart (b. Jan. 17, 1826; d. Feb. 4, 1871), Sousy J. Hart (b. Aug. 26, 1866; d. Jan. 28, 1879), and Barney B. Hart (b. Mar. 8, 1849; d. Mar. 28, 1895).While I have no evidence of this, I suspect that Frances is the wife of Benjamin.Sousy and Barney are probably family members, but I don't know what the relationship is."
Ophelia Key was b. 14 September 1856 (location unknown) and d. 17 December 1875.The information I received from Dr. Mary F. Estes stated that GW and Ophelia had 2 daughters: Dura (b. 13 January 1873, d. 6 September 1958) and Mary Janie (b. 21 February 1875, d. 29 January 1914 in Chambers County, AL).Dura Hart married James W. Howell and Mary Janie married William Washington Carter on 22 August 1895.Mary Janie and William Washington Carter had a daughter Naomi Ophelia Carter.Naomi is the mother of Dr. Mary F. Estes.
I hope this information is helpful.Do any of the dates and names correspond to information you have?Do you have information on our Bonds and Ramage families?I would be very happy to share what I have.--Sue
