Thanks for the reply. Perhaps there is a link since Vilsen is near Hanover Germany. And some of my grandfather's family and friend settled around Elgin, IL. I have a picture labeled "Illinois cousins from Elgin" but no names identified.
There were about a dozen boys around 16 years of age who came to the U. S. together. One of his best friends was John Stofragan (sp?) who settled and lived in Elgin. Also Henry's sister Dora Borcherding married Charles Brinkman and had a daughter Martha. Dora died in Elgin in 1964.
My grandfather was a farmer and to my knowledge did not do woodcrafts. The only common name I recognize is Harry which was my father's name.
