Cecil Botkin Jr.

Cecil Alexander Botkin Jr., 82, husband of Darlene R. Snyder Botkin for 60 years, died Sunday, Nov. 6 , in Nicholasville.
He was born in Durango, Colo. to the late Cecil A. Sr. and Georgia Mae Givens Botkin. He graduated from Lebo High School in Lebo, Kan., and served in the Navy from 1942 until 1945 on the USS Monrovia. He attended Kansas University, and served as a Kansas State Highway patrolman from 1949 until his retirement in 1981. He was instrumental in developing the first state driver's license examination and driver's test. Following his retirement, he was employed by Emporia State University Police and Safety Department until his final retirement in 1987.
He enjoyed traveling and other activities, and in 1995, he and his wife moved to Kentucky.
Survivors include his wife; his daughters, Darla Botkin (O'Neal Weeks) of Georgetown, and Janice Gay and Mike Younkin of Junction City, Kan.; Janet Kay and Steve Meissen of Fayetteville, Ga.; grandchildren Brian and Amy Meissan, Erin Younkin Kaberline and her husband, Phillip, and Kyle Younkin.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Merle Botkin, twin brother, Albert Charles Botkin, and sister, Thelma Botkin.
Graveside services were held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
Arrangements were made by Pruitt Funeral Home in Lexington.
The family requests no flowers, and that memorial gifts be sent to the Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Drive, Lexington, KY, 40504.
