THANKS, and Darla and I just met... as we live within an hour of one another and we're both watercolorists and genealogists. We realized that we BOTH had a connection to Itawamba and some of her names were so similar to the ones in my line, that we just have this feeling that there is a connection.
She has many WILLIAMS in her file, but can't put it all together. Among them are Nathaniel Williams m. (19 Sep 1852 ) Sarah Ann Box.... then, Robt. Allen Box who married Mary Williams.... then Isa Williams who married Mary C L Box and finally Unknown Williams who married M. M. Box.
So far, I can't see the connections, but I am it's there. Her line seems to move in the same patterns as mine, as well... from SC to AR or AL and then MS and finally TX.
I did look to see if I had any FOX-es in my file. This is unsubstantiated but I have a Lucy Smith Fox prob. born ca 1625 or so who married a Nathaniel Pope, children were Nathaniel/ wife Mary Polly DuVal and a sister Ann who married a John Washington and is some sort of relation of Geo. Washington. No substantiating proof...I'm afraid. Perhaps you know the line?
Nathaniel had a brother William who married Mary Marie Bridges and so on... The Popes connect with my husband's WILLIAMS line down the road when a Mourning Pope b. 1715 married Joseph Thomas. Then her daughter Mary Ruth Thomas married Col William Philips Horn and their daughter Milberry or Milbrey Horn married Joseph D. Philips, an early settler to Nashville. TN, where my ELISHA WILLIAMS show up in abt. 1803 or so... and proceeds to marry off his two eldest sons, William and Josiah, to Joseph's daughter, Sally and Peggy.
This latter couple then have a daughter Margaret "Peggy" Thomas Philips who marries Josiah Williams, my husband's 3rd great grandfather.
This WILLIAMS family seems to go back to John Williams and wife Whitley. The wife Whitley is very controversial as some believe she WAS NOT the right wife, but the children seem to be very well spelled out, and our descendant there is Richard Williams of Littleton, VA, whose wife was a Sarah Daugherty/Daughtrey.
The persuading evidence here for the line is that Group 9 Roots Web DNA study can mostly trace their line back to the children of this early John Williams. Some to the John who died in 1692, others to the John who died in 1686 who may have been the father of the latter John, or an uncle.
One of our group has traced his line to Itawamba Co., MS. Some Williams from that group seem to come through Clark Co., AR; while others seem to come there more directly out of Sevier Co., TN.
The BOX line seems to come from SC through AR. I suspect that these two families knew one another in SC as Josiah Box b. 1780 in Laurens Co., SC and died 1840 in Ckhoctaw Co., MS (wife purported to beMildred Powell) was son of Robert Box b. 1734 and d. 1787 and his wife Mary Williams.
Perhaps someone will have more detailed information... or I may just have to get out of the wagon and DIG a little. Then again, FOX and BOX are not that far apart... wondering....
