Bob, Your comment raises several questions: "I saw in another place that a researcher said that Rebecca was given Choctaw land in Mississippi. Of course, plenty of Caucasions got Choctaw land too. But, if her land was on a reservation of some sort, as some say, that might be documented. If she did indeed move away from the land without selling it, that could be because it was tied up in a reservation."
The 1840 census recordsAndrew Jones in Pontotoc Co. MS and the 1850 census records Rebecca Jones and a number of her children still in Pontotoc Co. MS.Pontotoc Co.was located in Chickasaw Territory. The oral history of John Newton Jones as presented in Bobby Jones McLane's book indicates Andrew Jones and family moved to Mississippi in 1831 and lived amongst the Chickasaw Indians.
On November 1, 1854,Rebecca Jones did receive a military warrant as widow of John Jones for his service in TN in the War of 1812.Was Andrew Jones really John Andrew Jones?
