John Borden Bap 14 Jul 1639 in Bristol, Gloucestershire, Eng.Arrived Maryland 1673 accompanied by his wife, Eleanor. (Source Bibliography for Arrival:SKORDAS, GUST, editor. The Early Settlers of Maryland: an Index to Names of Immigrants, Compiled from Records of Land Patents, 1633-1680, in the Hall of Records, Annapolis, Maryland. Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., 1968. 525p. Repr. 1986).
Died in Charlestown and/or Charles County, MD 1688.
Eleanor Ashbrooke Borden born 1639 in Liverpool, Eng.Died 1687 in MD.Her Father is suppose to be Thomas Ashbrooke and her Mother Lettice Hartley.
Eleanor's father Thomas is defineately in MD during this time and is old enough to be her Father. My real concern is that he arrived in 1648. (Same source as above).Question is would he have left his 9 year old daughter in Eng.I know girls married young, but...Also John Borden would have been 9 years old in 1648.Think there are some problems here.It is of course possible the Eleanor was left behind for her protection but that brings up Eleanor's sister, Mary Bap 1636 in Liverpool. She will marry into the Smallwood family. Since she is in MD, did she come in 1648 or later? (Source Bibliography: As above).
Lettice a total unk.The name may well be wrong; the arrival record only says "wife" as family member.
The other possiblity for Ann's father is William Borden, brother of John.He is in MD (court records) and could be a suspect.
Need more time at the Maryland Archives and/or the Balto Hist. Soc.Not sure I will find anything but it is worth a look.If you find anything I would appreciate a note.
I have a little more hearsay about the parents of John/William if you want further info to chew on.C J
