Hello again Anne Sorry for the delay but, I had to retrieve the book I was quoting from, someone had borrowed it.The actual quote by a contemporary traveller was as follows:- " The hollows of the rocks and sides of the hills are strewed with numerous habitations and the healthy ground converted into fields of corn and pasture.........The want of habitations for the increasing number of families, has occasioned an ingenious contrivance,a bridge being thrown across a deep dingle for the support of a railroad..............the arches, which are ten in number, have been walled up and formed into dwellings" This quote is from a local history book called "Eastern Valley" by Chris Barber. As for more info on the Boylands,I'm afraid it will have to wait for a few weeks as i am moving home shortly and a lot of my papers have have been packed ready for the move. I suppose that my time will be taken up by more important tasks Hope to hear from you soon. Gordon Thomas Boyland. P.S. I just realized that I don't know where you live?
