I have (today) found the Genealogy site, and your 1999 comments that you are descendent from William Brain, eldest brother of Thomas.
I also am descendent from William, (who had a younger brother called Thomas), but there are so many of them, in so many families, the following may help to establish if it is the same William:
William Brain was my Great Grandfather. He married Sarah Foster 30.12.1851 at Southam, Warwick, England and travelled to Australia on the "John Gray" arriving 25/11/1852. He died 1915, Sarah died 1923, both buried at St. Thomas' Church Narellan.
His father was Richard Brain, born C l809, Drayton, Oxford (per British census 1851)and he married Isabella Steel at Weston under Weatherley 1.12.1809.
Williams’s children were
*Hannah, born 14/3/1852 (believed to have died at sea on the way to Australia)
*Sarah Anne, born19/10/1854, Camden Park
*John Samuel, born 20/11/1856 Narellan
^Fanny, born 1858, Kiama
*William, born 24.12.1860 Jamberoo
*James R, born 1863 Kiama
*Thomas Charles, born 1865, Kangaroo Valley
*Isabel Ellen, born 1867 at Kiama
*Rosina Foster, born 1869 at Berrima
*Elizabeth Emily Florence, born 25/5/1874 Kangaroo Valley
*Walter H, born 1872 at Berrima.
The farm in Upper Kangaroo Valley was sold (I have details) and also have a photo of the Church on the land (the Brain family donated the land).
I am one of the grandsons of William (born24.12.1860) and have a very detailed history of his family.
I have been trying to trace details of the parents of Richard, who married Isabella at Weston Under Weathley in 1829. So far no luck, despite some leads that may be correct but so far no absolute link.
Roger, if this is the same William, then I would be very grateful if you could supply what information you have. I have recently returned to Australia from the UK, where my eldest son lives and works in Oxford. During the visit I drove to Shipston on Stour, where one of the leads took me…… very nice, but I have not established a definite link.
