Today I was tracing back my ancestry through the Knox family: going back starting with my great grandmother I have Emma Cynthia Knox, b. 1 December 1851.Her father was William Washington Knox, b. 25 March 1810; and grandfather Robert Knox, b. 10 March 1768 in Rowan Co., NC.Robert was married to a Martha Braly, b. 1785.Moving over to the Braly side of the equation I started to encounter some problems.Martha’s father was John Braly, b. 1754 in Rowan Co., NC.From searching ancestry.com, I have two possible sets of candidates for John’s ancestors: 1.Father: John Braly, b. 1720 County Antrium, Ireland Mother: Sarah Carruth, b. 1738 Ireland 2.Father: William Braly, b. abt. 2728 Derry Co., Ulster,Ireland Mother: Margaret Ann Woods, b. ? Ulster, Ireland
I have lots of information on the Knox’s, but cannot find an answer to the question I posed above.Unfortunately the problem could be simply that there may be two Martha’s who were both in Rowan Co., NC at about the same time.Obviously, I want the one who married Robert Knox.Another possibility is that the records that far back have gotten confused and there are two separate lines being pursued by different folks.Any help you can provide to help me with this mystery would be greatly appreciated.
