For Jim Florence: From their apparent ages, it looks like the Halifax line was founded by Thomas Brandon the Elder and his probable children Francis, David, William and Sarah (m. Joseph Pulliam). Your David wrote his will (during an illness?) nine years before he died so deeds and such add sons David and John Nicholson Brandon to his list of children. From my notes on him:
"David of Wynn's Creek" Birth date estimated as he is not on Cargill's Tithe list for 1749, meaning he should have been under 16 then. The first mention I find is in Halifax County Plea Book I, p. 151, 20 June 1753, when David Brandon is noted as executing Francis Graham's attachment on the estate of John and William Sizer. Plea Book I, p. 381, 19 March 1754, a deed from William Byrd to David Brandon is proved and ordered certified. He continues to add to his holdings as time passes. In 1758 David Brandon and William Brandon were appointed processioners/surveyors by the vestry of Antrim Parish, the Anglican Parish that acted as the county government. 1769, March 16-Will of David Brandon. Wife, Rebecca; sons, William and Thomas; daughters, Elizabeth, Margaret, Mary, Agnes and Rebeccah.Executors, John Lawson and William Edwards.Witnesses, William Brandon, Frances B. (X) Brandon and John Brandon. In his will filed July 16, 1778, David Brandon left his plantation and 330 acres to his eldest son William and 420a on Wynns Creek to Thomas.
Notes for Rebecca Long Brandon:

Rebeccah died on 27 Oct 1800 in Halifax Co, VA and was buried in Oct 1800 in Cemetery Seven Halifax Co, VA.James Long will probated in Caswell County 21 Jan 1796 lists as a daughter Rebeccah widow of David Branham." Virginia Public Claims for the Revolution, "most after 1781" lists Rebekah Brandon receiving payment for pasturage for 16 horses and 10 diets (for a man). Rebecca Brandon Halifax Co, VA, dated 1800 Book 6, p. 197 w/o David of Wynn Creek, son--Thomas, grandson--David Grimes Brandon and John Brandon s/o Thomas.
This couple's children were William Byrd b.4 Nov 1757 (m. Rebecca Scott), Thomas b.c. 1759 (m. Agatha Warren), Mary b.c. 1765 (m. Shadrack Hudson), Margaret b.c. 1765 (m. Richard Hostler), Elizabeth b. bef. 1769, Agnes b. bef. 1769 (m. Abner Rodden), Rebecca b. bef. 1769 (m. David Preston), David b. 1769 (d.1797 a bachelor) and John Nicholson Brandon b. aft. 1769 (d. 1794 a bachelor).
I can't encourage you enough to make the trip to the sweet little pocket of rural Virginia that your people come from!
