Loren Henry Brantley, 94, of Plano, TX, formerly of Hughes Springs, TX died on Monday, January 30, 2012 at Groom Senior Home Care in Plano.
Mr. Brantley was born April 10, 1917 in Wills Point, TX. He worked at Lone Star Steel and was President of the Local Union, prior to becoming a staff member with the United Steelworkers of America. He loved working for the Union and was passionate about caring for its members. He retired from the Steelworkers as Sub-District Director in 1986.
Mr. Brantley is a WWII veteran and Ex-POW. He was captured by the Japanese in 1942 and was held captive outside of Nagasaki, Japan for over 3 1/2 years. He received numerous metals from the US Marine Corp, including the Purple Heart.
He was a devoted father and loving husband to Dorothy Brantley for 63 years.
Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law Rick and Jan Brantley of Richardson, TX; 3 grandchildren, Rickey Jr., Chris and Sarah of Richardson; one sister Dorothy Miller, of Dallas, TX and one brother Richard Brantley of Daingerfield, TX; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Hughes Springs, Hughes Springs, TX, with Rev. Larry NeGron officiating, at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 4, 2012. Graveside services will follow immediately at Hughes Springs Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home, Inc., of Hughes Springs.
Visitation will be from 9:00 - 11:30 a.m. at Reeder-Davis Funeral Home prior to the services.
