There is a lot of misinformation concerning the "Dutch" reference. The Bratcher line started in Bavaria, which is in southern Germany. In the early 1400s, Germany was spelled Deutschland. The Bratcher name was spelled Bracher. They were not the typical blond hair and blue eyed German, as they had dark hair and Brown eyes. They were refered to as "Black Deutsch". In the process of moving through France to England, the spelling changed to Black Dutch. People began to drop the "Black" and people then assumed we were from Holland.
