Thanks for responding so quickly!!! actually, the name I have is Mary Ann Britten, but i have searched for her relentlessly with no luck. Her name was on a wedding applicalion for my gg grandmother's mother. My gg grandmother, Bernetta Bartholomew, is shrouded in mystery! One elderly relative says Bernetta's maiden name wasn't really Bartholomew, but that is what is on her marriage application and all the other documents I have found.Bernetta's brother, Amos, is supposedly illegitimate? This same elderly relative said that their mother's name was Ann Gleason and wasa school teacher (that is what she was told as a small girl), but I haven't been able to find anything on that, either. So I don't know if Mary Ann Britten is Mary's maiden name or married name or what!I do know on the census record I found in 1880 in Lake County that their mother is going by Anna.Another reason I thought her maiden name may be Brayton is because of the following I found on a cemetery record in Momence, Kankakee County, Illiois (which borders Lake County, Indiana), and is the last known residence of my Bernetta: IRENA BRAYTONWife of Warren Brayton (broken stone)******* Our Bernetta named her first daughter Myrtel Irene......... To the right of this stone is another stone, fallen face down and embedded in the ground. This is probably for WARREN BRAYTON 1794-1894. SARAH BRAYTONDied Nov 2, 1863 Aged 43 Yrs. JEROME E. BRAYTONDied Oct 24, 1866 Son of Warren & Irena Brayton Aged 23 or 29 Yrs27 Ds. ZENO C. BRAYTONDied Jan 26, 1875Aged (can't read;cracked)***********Our Anna named her son Zana on the 1880 census....... Son of Warren & Irena Brayton
Any help would be SOOOOO appreciated, but I realize this is like finding a needle in a haystack. Thanks! Desiree
ps. do you know anything that might connect these Braytons to an Anna or Ann?
