I'm trying to find more information on Nathan N. and Huldah A. (Chipman) BRESEE and their families. I understand Nathan was the son of Michael Bresee of NY but the family moved here to Crawford County, PA.Nathan and Huldah are buried in North Richmond Cemetery, along with Nathan's brother Benjamin and some of his family. In some of my grandmother's notes it says they lived in Richmond Twp. in 1843.
A family tree in an old Bible lists 6 children for Nathan and Huldah:
Prentis N. Jim Elma Nancy Fremanette Livonia Irene
Livonia Irene Bresee (b. 1853/4) married Edward C. Wightman -- they were my 2nd Great-Grandparents. Livonia died April 30, 1934 and is buried in Conneaut Cemetery, Crawford Co, PA. I have info on most of their children. They lived in Union Twp.
I have an obituary for Hanna Fremanette Burgess, widow of Charles Burgess, from 1938 I think (the newspaper clipping is badly worn). My grandmother had attached it to a 1984 clipping of a funeral notice for Ethel Burgess Greaves, Hanna and Charles Burgess' daughter. It said Hanna's maiden name was Bresee and my grandmother wrote on the side that Ethel was Livonia's niece. Hanna and her daughter Ethel are both buried in Cambridge Springs Cemetery according to the clippings. They lived in Richmond Twp. before they moved to Cambridge Springs.
Prentis N. Bresee -- His bio appeared in History of Crawford County, 1885.He was born October 28, 1837 in Trumbull Co, OH. He came to Richmond Twp with his parents in 1843. He married Mary R. Marsh (born Medina Co, OH) on June 6, 1861. Their children were Effie, Wilbur, Chester and a fourth child that was deceased.Prentis was a Civil War veteran. He along with wife Mary, son Chester E., Chester's wife Kittie Warren, and son Wilbur P. are buried in New Richmond Cemetery.
I have no solid information on the other children -- Jim, Elma or Nancy Bresee. And apparently there may also be a 7th child that I'm missing as Prentis' bio stated Nathan and Huldah were the parents of seven kids.
I found a James Bresee, born 1849, in 1880 in Vernon. It said his parents were born in NY. He had a wife, Emma, and daughters Gerta, Jessie and Bertie. He's possibly the right "Jim" but I can't prove it for sure.
There is also an Elma Bresee, wife Ann, and dau. Maud and Pearl, in Richmond 1880. But from what I can gather, Nathan's bro. Benjamin had a son named Elma as well.
I'd appreciate any information on this family! Thanks in advance!
