Here's some information I have on the Brewers who came to Illinois.I am descended through William Brewer and Jane McKnight (James McCollough and their daughter, Sarah Brewer were my great-great Grandparents, John Ross McCollough my great grandfather).
Descendents of Thomas and Lucretia Brewer:
William BREWER was born in 1790.He died on 5 Mar 1874.William Brewer the eldest of eight children was born in North Carolina.
The 1850 Census Report for Greenup Precinct in Cumberland County, Illinois, shows for June 1st that he resided there, as 60 years of age, a farmer. He married Jane McKnight probably in 1812, he served in the War of
1812. William and Jane were stated as pioneers in Tennessee, Indiana, and
Illinois. They moved to Cumberland County in 1838 and settled five miles
north of Greenup, Illinois on which place Jane died. This farm is located
about a quarter mile south from Timothy, Illinois and is on the east side
of the road running south from Timothy. This farm was entered in land records on October 19, 1849.
William later married a widow Mary ??.
William was about five feet six in height, a whig and known to be absolutely fearless, he died of a heart attack at about eighty-four years of age and death occurred while he sat on a log in the woods near the home
place. One thing the family remembers is that he was a very early riser,
and a hard worker.
Jane McKnight was born in North Carolina, her father was a Scotchman and a
Mason. The family had social and educational standing.Jane is accredited
as being a fine woman. She was buried in Kirkling Cemetery in Union
Township which later was an open pasture where there no graves can be
identified so eighty-eight years after her death her tombstone was removed
and placed on the grave of her husband in the Harmony Cemetery by her
relative Warren Brewer.

Lucretia was
six foot in height and weighed about three hundred pounds and because of
her size a special coffin was required and it was too large to be taken
into the Little Flock Church so therefore her funeral service was delivered at the front door of the church.
John BREWER was born on 13 May 1815.He died on 2 Aug 1899.He was buried in Toledo Cemetery.
John was a farmer.John in his later years lived in Toledo, Illinois. In April
1, 1899 when a family reunion was held he requested his minister of the
Methodist church to a service at his home because he wished to testify
once again in that way to his abiding faith and trust in Jesus as his only
hope and Savior. He is remembered as a great hunter and trapper. Mom
Spence (?) remembers this about him; his dark eyes just snapped and he was
a forceful speaker and held rapt attention with his grand story telling
she heard from him while he was visiting his sister Sarah (Brewer)McCollough. Mom
Spence also remembers that John's horse ran away with him down the Greenup
river hill and that he was never very well after this accident happened.

name prominent in politics, in law, in public affairs, and in the every
day life of the community."Overcoming almost insurmountable obstacles,
Thomas Brewer became a brilliant lawyer, for thirty years he was a leader
in the political life of Illinois and was closely associated with and a
warm personal friend of Stephen A. Douglas. The history of the Lincoln-Douglas Debate held September 18, 1858 at Charleston, Illinois states that Tom Brewer of Toledo sat on the platform. He was a member of
the Methodist Church for thirty-five years and in later years was an ordained Methodist minister.

Sarah BREWER was born on 14 Jul 1825.She died on 26 Jan 1909.She was buried in Harmony Cemetery.Sarah was the 6th of eight children of William and Jane Brewer and was born in Wayne County, Indiana.Sarah and Nancy with their brother Thomas
walked from this place in Indiana to the Timothy Homestead carrying young
apple trees with them, and ate wild strawberries on the way.One of the
incidents passed down through the family (by Manda Sarah's daughter) was
that William Brewer sent the two daughters Nancy and Sarah with a message
to a neighbor about 1 1/2 miles north at daybreak and just as they got to
the yard they heard wolves howling behind them.Sarah is remembered by
the family as being slender, always sighing, sad but blessed with a sense
of humor, had a clear ringing voice, known widely for her kindness, taking
care of the sick, and taking every one in that was homeless, also loved to
visit the cemetery. She married James McCollough about 1844 and they

Dayton and Frank; the other 5 children died. Amanda Jane did not get to attend school very much because of severe eye trouble, but in later years her eyes improved greatly. She was noted for her honesty and took care of the outside chores after Marion died and raised this large family. When
she died at the age of 89 years she had only one streak of gray hair, she
was always busy, had such wonderful dry wit and for years made beautiful
hand knitted lace. She must have had unusual ability in business matters
to be able to pay off three doctor bills, funeral expenses, finished
paying for the farm, hiring help, feeding, clothing and educating all
seven children to what would be equal to a college education now. One of
Amanda's wise sayings that should be remembered is "Old People are just
