Shill - one who acts as a decoy (as for a pitchman or as a decoy)
Thank you for the slanderous comment about my character, and a complete misrepresentation of the facts. Why not just email me directly and ask me what is going on?
NO, I do not work for eBay. Yes, I probably do have only 4 posts regarding my grandmother's parents (Burke Family). To date I have had not one reply after posting more than once about them. If you want to search deeper, please go look for some of my Queries on the usgenweb project. Start with Henry County, MO. Again, more unanswered posts about my family.
As for my career, I am a consulting electrical engineer. I have a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from the U. of Washington and a MS degree from Georgia Tech. I reside in Atlanta, GA. I do electrical engineering design work from my house. I used to work for Boeing and some other large corporations. It makes me laugh to think I would be employed by eBay.How much money could they pay me for a 100 year old photo that sells for $4.99 or maybe $50.00. Please notice that my postings are in general sporadic (though I did post a few the other night). I am a poor pitchman for eBay if I work only occasionally.
I do genealogical research on the surnames HART, RAPP, BURKE, ROEDDER, LEDFORD. My mother's family is from Croatia and that is well established back to the 1600's. Your grand deduction that "all for the same surname" is very true. My great-grandfather Henry Roedder married Lillian Burke and they had my grandmother Bernice (Ida). My great-grandmother (Lillian) died giving birth to my grandmother in 1913. Henry basically gave my grandmother up to lived in foster homes and with other families. She ended up in Watonga, OK, (please see my recent purchases on eBay under the name NEOCONTROL (look at the feedback section), and you'll see I purchased 2 postcards of Watonga, OK, in 1920. When my grandmother lived there.) My grandmother was treated poorly in most of these households, an unpaid servant.
The reason I make these posts is because I see a lot of pictures (and notice I only post pictures with names, dates, places) on eBay that go unsold, knowing that there are people out there who would prize these for their genealogy. I have considered the risk of sounding commercialized and thinking that people will think I am selling these. Please see my bids at NEOCONTROL and you'll see that I am not affiliated with these sellers. Maybe I should make more of a disclaimer
Also, see on eBay that I recently purchased a book called "Pioneer Days in the Southwest", partially authored by John Hart, my g-g-grandfathers cousin. There is also a book by Judge Parker I recently bought that has listings of the criminals that my g-grandfather, who was a US Marshal in the Indian Territories, used to turn over to his court.
Francine, I will thank you though for your concern that genforum doesn't become commercialed. If the genforum oversite group or committe or operators find fault in my postings, then I will stop them immediately.
But, on your own, go to www.ebay.com. Type in "old bible" or "old photo" or "family bible" into the search square and go look at a few items. Some list names and places and dates and they go unsold.
A woman responded 'thanking' me and calling me 'wonderful' because of my recent posting about the Brubaker family reunion photos. I think that is only the second match that was made in all my posts. I think that is sad really.
Please go and look at the post I made to the Sankey family forum. The photo album in question there lists photos of "IRA SANKEY AND D.L. MOODY ".If you put the word Moody into the search option for the Sankey Family, you get a post by Barbara Curtis on 9/16/99 for a "Dwight L. Moody & Ira D. Sankey". Do you think Barbara Curtis would be interested to know about the album on eBay? Do you think that Barbara Curtis is actively searching eBay for said album? Please also notice the post on 12/06/99 by Cheryl Sankey Chapman. It is a response to the DL Moody and Ira Sankey post by Barbara. Do you think Cheryl would like to know a photo album of her ancestors is being sold for $36. I try and search first, and then post if I find a hit. I also email these people directly. Does this answer to your "knowledgable" claim?
Again, I am not hired by eBay. I've got more electrical engineering design work stacked up that pays a LOT more than an eBay commission on an old photo or album would pay.
I hope you have a good day. If you have more questions, please email me directly at email@example.com.If you wish to pursue this further, please have genforum contact me.
