In a claim to the southern claims commission in 1871, Nathaniel Brewer states, "I had a son in the Rebel army. His name is John H. Brewer. He enlisted in 1861 and turned 21 the following October. He joined against my will... My brothers were all north." This would make John H. Brewer born about 1840. I believe John H. Brewer served in the 2nd TEnnessee Infantry, CSA.
A witness to this claim in the same year was William M. Brewer. He states, "I know the claimant in this case. He is my father." referring to Nathaniel Brewer.William M. Brewer goes on to state that he is 25 years old in 1871 when the claim was filed. At this time, he says he was living near Big Creek in Henderson County, TN.
This would not be unusual except that we do not have either of these sons in our list of already 11 children for Nathaniel David Jackson Brewer (1816-1906). Is anyone related to any of these men?
